Humans have been sharing stories with one another for forever. The kind of stories we have told have taken many forms full of imagination and creativity. As storytelling is a performance, aims to encourage not only the writing of new stories but also the theatrical presentation of those stories.

Students in Stages 3 – 6 are asked to write a story to be performed for an audience. It should be between 4 and 6 minutes long, performed by memory. While adults may help guide the writing process and performance, the work should be purely of the individual young writer/performer. Students should think about the shape of their story, dramatic tension, how it engages an audience, performance techniques, use of voice, pace and dynamics. The story should entertain.
