Outdoor Activities for Kids

When you can, have your kiddos go outside and get some fresh air and exercise.
Remember to practice social distancing and wash those hands afterwards!
Here are some great ideas for kids to do outdoors.
1
Chalk Art
Got concrete? Got colourful chalk?

You're set for the kids to get creative!
The benefit of outdoor chalk art? It can be washed away with water, either by hose or rain.
Sorted!

tip - draw out a hopscotch and have double the fun!

CSI Leaf
Have the children learn about trees via leaf identification!

This can be done in the backyard or while you're on the afternoon family walk.

Take your smartphone and identify what type of tree you got the leaf off from (or a leaf you found on the group - it's autumn afterall!).

Discover if the tree is an Australian native or an imported one, will that tree flower in Spring and what would the seeds look like?

Discover if certain trees are used to make products like; oil, gum or fairies!

Gardening
Still got those herb seed pots from Woolies?
Time for the kiddos to start digging and creating their own garden paradise!

Check out your local nursery to see if they can deliver or organise a pick up of seeds, seedlings, flowers, greenery, potting mix etc.

Have the kids plot out their garden or window planter on paper and get to work!
Fun, messy and hopefully the plants will thrive and keep on giving throughout the year!

Obstacle course
Combine fun and exercise with a homemade obstacle course in the backyard.

Lay down a rope on the ground and have the kids 'tightrope walk' across.

draw a hopscotch (or lay out sticks) and add that the course.

Have them crawl under a low table or a tarp.

Jump over a small obstacle

If you have old moving boxes, make a tunnel.

Weave between trees or chairs.

There are heaps of obstacles that you can make with household items or use what nature provided in your yard!

Bug Hunt
Discover the bug world in your backyard with a magnifying glass and a keen eye!

Have a list (with pictures) of common backyard insects and see how many you can find. If you can, safety catch one or two so you can have a closer look (don't forget to set them free once you're done).

Remember, keep an eye on your kiddo just in case they discover a redback spider, ep!
