Got a mini Sherlock or Miss Marple in the family? On 9 July, author and all-round smarty Rachel Jackson is hosting a detective school at Bathurst Library where kids aged 8 to 12 can try their hand at cracking codes, dusting for fingerprints (really, don't sneeze on the evidence) and whipping up some invisible ink. It's a chance to get hands-on with cool spy stuff without worrying about dodging villains or tripping over your magnifying glass.

No need to bring a trench coat or a deerstalker hat, just your curiosity and a sense of mischief. It's a relaxed morning of puzzles and sleuthing from 10:30 to noon, and you do have to book your spot—because apparently, even junior detectives need to RSVP.
